Suddenly realising what an amazing song the title track is, possibly top 10 Amplifier

Extra vehicular is one of the greatest tracks ever recorded. The 6 minute jaw dropping outro raises the heart rate and makes every hair on your body stand up. '5 minutes too long', piffle. This album would be worth the money if this was the only track on it.
Better overall than The Octopus, more cohesive. That is all.

For me Extra Vehicular takes far too long to get going, too many 'stop-starts' but when it does finally GO it's good, but can't compete with say, Interstellar or Trading Dark Matter on the Stock Exchange

Personally I love this album. I like it more than The Octopus, which has some brilliant songs, but is also perhaps a bit too long for it's own good.

Even The Wheel? That track pretty much sucks :/
The annoying thing is that every track could be perfect, but falls down at some point, apart
from Matmos and the t/t of course

Been enjoying this band a lot lately
Astronaut, Octopus and S/T are all awesome, but every time I try this album I get half way through The Wheel and just get boooored

So you finally broke into The Octopus?
Yeah, like I've said before, The Wheel is only half a fully-formed song, definitely the worst here. I've never found Paris in the Spring particularly interesting either, it doesn't go anywhere...

Yeah, it's actually really great. The second disc feels kinda redundant but other than that...'Trading Dark Matter...' is one of their all time best songs imo

Second disc redundant!? That one's the best for me, The Sick Rose, then Interstellar, The Golden Ratio and finally, the best fucken' closer I've ever heard, Forever & More, what more could you need?
Trading Dark Matter is pretty damn amazing, definitely top 5 Amplifier, along with Interstellar and F&M. What else?

The Octopus is brilliant, For Forever and More is a great closer. Their self titled is still their best though imo.

If I listen to just the second disc as a standalone, it's great. But after an hour of The Octopus another hour of the same thing just drags and I can't appreciate the songs properly.
Best Amplifier for me is UFO's, twice as much emotion in that song as any other. Also Motorhead, Trading Dark Matter, Interstellar, Neon, On/Off, Panzer...damn the st is so good

UFO, One Great Summer and Post Acid Youth are my top 3

UFOs is definitely up there for me, but when you compare its structure to F&M they're pretty similar but F&M just does everything so much more powerfully, I mean that climax...
In terms of emotion, Oscar Night and even Matmos are pretty up there.
Octopus beats s/t IMO because it has more standout moments and I love the prog leanings, but it's pretty close

I still don't get the complaints for this album. It might not be as good as s/t or octopus, but it's still pretty good.

The Wheel tho... eww

tbh a re-mastering/re-recording of the octopus would have been a better way to spend their funds than this
and then just taken the best songs from this as an ep or whatever

Or combine Sunriders with Matmos, Where The River Goes, Between Today and Echo Street into one killer album.
What's your problem with the Octopus' recording? It's occasionally flat but most of it's fine-great

I can understand the criticism for The Wheel (probably my least favorite), and I can see the argument for Extra Vehicular going on a bit too long, but the rest is really nice imo. The EP has some incredible songs as well. Could have skipped the wheel and added a few from the EP instead.

Paris In the Spring meanders for most of its runtime and Mary Rose starts off great but then doesn't really do anything in the second half. Where The River Goes is great but fairly simple. I can't complain about Matmos though because that track is incredible

Matmos is probably the best track they ever made. I'm sad that the album does not live up to that standard.
