I thought you'd dig The Gallery's melancholic atmosphere.

The Gallery is the best melodic death album ever released imo and The Mind's I is awesome as well (especially "Hedon" and "Insanity's Crescendo")

this times 1000

This sounds interesting, I only have the Gallery but I might check (or should I get Fiction/Character first?)

Try Fiction first as it is probably the best representation of their "newer" sound

Interesting. Why do you like this over those two albums?
from what i remember, on the gallery everything was uber melodic all the time with no real standouts. very well done dont get me wrong, just too melodic death by the books for me (one melodic guitar lead after another after another). relistening to it right now to see if my opinion changes but so far im not feeling it
this feels more developed. each song is distinct, the choruses are well done, the melody is still there but much more subtle which i like. i just found myself a lot more interested compared to the gallery. as for fiction all i remember is being turned off by the keys but that was a looong time ago
probably gonna run through their discog this week and see what happens

Alright, I'll try to try it (but I've got a lot of other stuff to check and may end up getting this first)

The Gallery is one of my least favorites, too. The Mind's I is worse, though.
I humbly beg to differ about The Mind's I, I found it to be awesome back in the day and I still dig it, whereas The Gallery didn't have the same effect.

Instinct tells me that that's stupid, but I understand; it feels...a bit too much at once imo. Still an awesome album

Agreed.

Yeah this is pretty good but it hasn't grown on me much. I like it but it doesn't grab you like the best DT records. Think they can definitely build on this though. Maybe if they take a bit more time with the next album it will be a classic to rival 'Fiction'...

"Hedon" and "Insanity's Crescendo" were the only good songs on that album. The rest seemed like Slaughter of the Soul with half the heart.
As for The Gallery, the opener is awesome and certain melodies are pretty damn cool, but they ruin the best ones by kicking up the speed. "Edenspring" comes to mind as a song that starts out with that awesome bass melody and the guitars come in and it kicks even more ass... and then 1000 BPM and 100 different changes ruins it.
