This was the first album I've heard from these guys and I guess its also my favorite from them. Nostalgia plays a big part in this I'm sure, this is just such a pleasant album to listen to, it feels like coming home.

For sure dude. Elegy was my first, and when I say it's the best Amorphis album, am I really being objective or does it remind me of simpler times, when every new metal record I discovered had this almost life-changing effect on my 15 year old pre-jaded malleable mind?

its hard to pick a favorite with amorphis since their whole discography is so full of quality and diversity.
so i just pick the one i heard first and have the most amount of nostalgia for :3

It's a great thing to let nostalgia be the deciding factor in your favorite record of a band. I have exactly the same thing with Under the Red Cloud, it being the first I've heard from these guys

who was the vocalist on thousand lakes? i liked that one
their old dm stuff had good vocals iirc but i cant pretend the music itself was anything special, underrated relative to the rest of thier discog
