Not trying to rebut what Aids is saying, but house generally grooves long and moves slowly. So hard to knock the track length. That said track like 'Just Ask the Lonely' by him clocks in at over 10 minutes and doesn't feel too long at all.

So wouldn't say the songs are too long, just don't captivate enough. For me 'The Sh*t Baby' is super tight though.

yeah but these tracks feel long

I know that how a lot of house is, which was why I said that I think this music would be much better live. I just don't feel like this particular approach works well in LP form. It's one thing to have long songs that groove slowly, but I don't feel like he has enough else going on here to get away with it.

I like deep house music but not when it's this static. People seem to love this guy though, so I feel like this is probably a case of me just not "getting" what's so great about this. I still love Just Ask the Lonely though.

@Aids, yeah I get what you're saying, and agree its bad if they feel long. But just saying songs that do just as little can still work in LP form (aka Just ask the Lonely). Fact that this feels long just reflects on what hes put forth in this album.

My ratings prob not as low as a 2.5, but still chewing on it.

Okay I just listened to The Shit Baby and it rules, I'm gonna have to at least give this a listen and see how I like it.

it's just such a chore to get through for me, even if I do actually like virtually all of the beats and musical ideas floating around here. I want to like it more, but it just bores me.

Although I don't like seeing it, that 2.5 does make sense. To me the songs don't feel too long at all. I think they'd have less power if they were shortened up.

Guess it boils down to how much repetition you take.

but I like some stuff that has lots of repetion, The Field's "Looping State of Mind" for example

I think the repetition is perfectly sprung out.

If you really dive into the melody it can be almost trancy

still haven't checked this one out, but i love this guy

definitely going to revisit detroit then come back to this, thank you for letting me by myself
got some good vibes going for it though - someone's comment in that vid described him beautifully

"Love the rawness. The feeling that he just jumps into a track and doesnt worry about all the fiddly
bullshit so much, just building a track off the bounce and vibe and letting´╗┐ it flow naturally!"

fan of omar but looking for a bit more atmosphere/texture should probably check out kyle hall - i
found both on this article spin had on animal collective and 127 of their favorite influences,
really awesome stuff. well, kinda irrelevant but i already knew about this dude like two or so years
ago and noticed him on there.. but kyle hall was an incredible find!

checking kyle hall out now.

Spin really pissed me off with their whole "worst new music" thing, After reading the awful review of mgmt i cant take their reviews seriously anymore. Mind you that avant garde article was dope.

This is still his weakest album. Not a negative though
