Review Summary: A superb hip-hop album, which at times is very fun and lighthearted but also has a more serious side...

Cam Groves. If anyone on this website has heard of him, they see him as "The guy who's Sposes friend". I'm here to show you all he is much much more than that. Born and raised in Wells, Maine, he released his first album Hope Something Cool Happens in 2011, and this is his sophomore record.

Track 1: Grovenistic (Intro) (3/5)

My least favourite track on the record. Not to say that it's bad, because it's a nice introduction to the album and all, it just lacks something that the rest of the songs hold. definately a good humoured track to brighten ones mood though. Merely an introduction to the full album.

Track 2: Crack Hat Music (4/5)

This song is one of the most musically impressive on the album. It has a very funky xylophone throughout the song, and Cam's just doing what Cam does best: Fun rhymes! Another light-hearted song lyrically. It has a sing-along chorus, without sounding pop at all.

Track 3: So Damn Good (feat. Spose) (5/5)

If your looking for a song to cheer you up and make you smile, this is it. Spose is in on the chorus, and he's a very welcome addition to the song. The two sing about a female who smells so damn good! Very funny, and the instruments are above average for hip-hop like always. Cam makes me laugh out loud when he sings about how this girl "Walks like her *** don't stank and it doesn't" and how her "Bath and body makes me actin naughty". Guarenteed you will get a laugh out of this song, a highlight of the record.

Track 4: Ex Games (Feat. Kristina Kentigian) (5/5)

This song takes a more serious turn; Cam rhymes about his ex, which he dogged out on previous songs, but this time around he's speaking from the heart, real talk. He raps about how he "Didn't care much for haircuts till we paired up" and how their first few months were the greatest, but things quickly took a wrong turn when they broke up. A very serious song, it also has quite the atmospheric music, this is one you can really close your eyes and float away to. Another album highlight.

Track 5: Kick Back (3.5/5)

Starts off with a synthesizer sounding like your in a casino! This mood stays through the song, it's very mellow, nothing too special or interesting though. One line that made me laugh hard was "I ain't masterbating but i'm only gonna do me" good chill out song.

Track 6: I Got Rhymes (Feat. Spose) (5/5)

Another casino sounding song! Spose is back again, and he really ups this song to a 5 with his verse. The song is about how Cam and Spose have rhymes. It's mostly them talking about themselves, it's awesome when Spose speeds up and slows down during his verse. And the transition from Cam to Spose is amazing. Cam's verses are very good as well. The music sounds like it came straight out of the Super Nintendo, something that happens quite a few times on this album.

Track 7: Tim Tebow (3.5/5)

"On your knees hoe, Tim Tebow". Right from that line you can tell it's not a very serious song. But it's a very funny song, and the music is very ambient. Chorus bugs me though, that's why this doesnt get a 4.

Track 8: Hit The Road (4.5/5)

Another song that sounds alot like it came out of a Super Nintendo. This song is about how Cam wants to get out of Maine. The synthesizer is very mellow, and the music is slightly sad. It gives you another inside look on Cam's life, the lyrics definately make this song better.

Track 9: What Now (Feat. Thommy Kane) (3.5/5)

This song sounds like someone's yelling it from a back alley, that's the feeling you get. It's a very frantic sounding song, but it's also quite bland.

Track 10: Good Time (Feat. Thommy Kane) (5/5)

The start of a great ending to the album. This is probably the most chilled out song in the world, Thommy hits some good notes on the chorus, and theres a very bluesy guitar without. Cam sings about a night he's having, and it's a good time. The guitar solo is great and welcomed with open arms. A fan of any genre would appreciate this song.

Track 11: Diamond In The Rough (5/5)

A very fun song, the chorus is perfect! The piano notes are just bashed out, and it's another chill song, but Cam is humourous as he sings about a girl he's interested in who's stuck working in a minimum-wage job. The best line in this song, and the whole album, is when Cam tells of how he's "The type of dude who likes to have fun, so I got a milkshake hoping you would get the pun"! The piano is probably the highlight of this song, especially at the end. The best song on the record.

So that's Grovenistic. A very ambient, chill record that will always manage to put a smile on your face. Check this out for sure, you won't regret it.

This is my first review so any criticism or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing on you, but it's very hard to pull off a good track by track without it seeming amateur-ish

it's just much less trouble to go with a standard review
who knows, experiment a little and find your own style
