If the bands name is singular, you would use 'is,' because it is one band. It doesn't matter how many people are in the band, the band itself is still one band.
So, with Disturbed it would be "Disturbed is..."
On the other hand, with a band like Foo Fighters, it would be "Foo Fighters are..." since the name for their band is plural.
That's how I have always understood it.
