this is better than sands but sands still rules. gorguts is probably the best dm band of all time, if not top 3. NO ONE has 5 total albums near as good as their full lengths.

but as far as who is fresh and poised to put out killer material repeatedly NOW, I'd say these guys are the best. dead congregation is not far behind. promulgation is a bit samey in spots but it's so fucking well done that that point is negligible to me. all they need to do is move outside their box a little bit more and the sky's the limit for them. morbus chron did that this year, went from almost-mediocre osdm copy band to one of the more interesting metal albums in years. think of what would happen if a band as talented as dead congregation did something like that.

what does this do better than colored sands? have more straight up osdm riffage? it definitely doesnt compare in songwriting or atmosphere.

i definitely dont dislike this by any means but for the sake of conversatioin.

yeah dead congregation showed a little promise that maybe theyd end up doing something different from everyone else, and then Promulgation came out and it was even more straightforward than Graves. awesome album but i was disappointed.

It's more straightforward yeah, but not disappointing at all. DC is one of the best around right now.

@ greyvy - the production is perfect, this guy's vox are beyond top-notch, yeah infinite awesome riffs and honestly I like the atmosphere better on this than on colored sands, not that that reflects badly on colored sands just that it's so great on this. I think the songwriting keeps it interesting enough to be compelling for all 43 minutes and that's all it needs to do. songwriting is probably better on colored sands.
