Eh I think it's unfair for a band to have astronomical expectations for each album and expected to release something deep and meaningful. Holy Fire was a fun rock record with some great riffs, they have plenty of time in their career to release another Total Life Forever.

Half of the songs on Holy Fire were not supposed to be 'fun'.
TBH I think the softer songs on the new album are still less subte or inventive than on Total Life Forever, which doesn't mean they are bad.
