the police and duran druan suck imo)
........
darkwave idk obvs new order isnt exactly darkwave but thats the kinda stuff ive been struggling to find
ethereal, neoclassical, gothic, or traditional?

I can't get into those genres, yet?
|

i think my favourite post-punk band is Wipers, didnt mention them earlier cuz i wasn't sure if they were considered postpunk.
theyre a punk band but they get tossed under post-punk too
post-punk is just an umbrella term for a huge number of bands that often don't sound anything alike, don't get too hung up on it
|
| |
@gia i dont rlly know much about the sub styles. ive just heard a handful of darkwave labeled albums recently and id like to explore it more, any deviation of the genre would be cool

It's funny you say this because I listened to stuff like it at work for a year before I just immersed myself in it one day. I'm a bit obsessed with the whole aura of how it felt to live in the 80s based on the music that existed at the time.
|
| |
Moreso 'ethereal' or any number of ambient electronic subgenres.
|
| |
I wouldn't even know where to start there.

So nice to see New Order and New Wave/80s love here!
Anyone else a fan of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark? Not sure if the band got mentionned in this
thread. Erasure too. Being digging a lot of their stuff recently.
You guys named a lot of 80s bands I didn't know yet, so thanks ;)

I've heard Erasure, haven't heard Orchestral. You should post more - you seem cool.

demi you should check out Psychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain, pretty sure you haven't heard that.
it's noisy post-punk but it'd be pretty easy for you to get into since it's like the 'first shoegaze'
album. plus it's my favorite album so you have to like it
and yeah not a lot of no wave on sput either but that's a way smaller genre than new wave, new wave
used to be huge

been thinking about making a list of my 100 favorite new wave albums but i don't want to put in the work if no one would be interested, would that intrigue anybody the slightest bit?
|
| |
Absolutely. I thought about collaborating with someone on a list earlier today.
|
| |
foxblood that would be sweet as fuq id take recs from your list. sputnik needs a lil culture

@someguest
Hehe thanks ;P
If you are curious: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have had quite a lot of hits back in the
1980s! They've reformed about 6 years ago I think, they're even gonna release a new album next
April! Lots of cool cool New Wave/electronic/synthpop stuff ^_^
They have made what I think is one of the greatest synthpop albums, "Architecture and Morality", in
1981. Their song "Souvenir" is on that album, it's so perfect it's not even funny:

And this one is their first single. Turns out it is still one of their best songs ever!

@foxblood
Hell yes, do it =)

Oh I know OMD, I didn't even think that might be their full name. I've heard that second track countless times at work.
|
| |
And everyone knows this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awUFFNr3imY
haha

Absolutely, insta feature
|
| |
Yep ^_^
Haven't heard all of their songs yet, but "Maid of Orleans" is to this day my OMD favorite!
