i believe you can force yourself to like anything if you want to, absolutely. perhaps not at one given
time, but over time (by nature of something growing on you). "good" and "bad" music is a completely
subjective measure usually influenced by the opinions of others and other variables (such as what
particular point the music comes into your life, and what internal processes you are able to attach to
it to make it meaningful). something can't sound objectively better than something else, as different
sounds / musical tinctures appeal to everyone's brains differently. so to assert that you can't force
yourself to like something that is inherently bad i believe is wrong, because we as individuals apply
that quality to music. all music has the same worth, objectively.

Nah man no matter how much I listen to new found glory, even my rigorous marathons through their discog numerous times in a day, they still sound like shit to me. theory debunked.

i'm not analyzing music, i'm analyzing the relationship between music and human beings, and our
tendency to use taste in music as another way to assert ourselves as dominant beings.

well there you go "i'm right and you're wrong" logic prevails once again. the difference is i am not
trying to win or prove you wrong or prove myself right. i'm discussing this for the sake of it
needing to be discussed and adding my piece.

what does that have to do with what we're talking about. mbv isnt some unknown bandcamp band with a demo. they're kind of a big deal. why does people giving them more attention, that they deserve, bother you?
|

why cant you just like what you like
except fit for rivals ofc

no, i have no issue with this band. see: loveless is one of my favorite albums of all-time. it's
just bothersome to see people wanting to feel wanted through their music taste by forcing themselves
to like things that a lot of people like. the irony in that is that they do it to feel appreciated,
but end up being another ignored drone. to deny that these people exist is pointless. they are in
every sect of life, and i am not accusing anyone specifically of being one, especially not you.
why cant you just like what you like
if you would read my posts, this is exactly what i am saying. it should be that simple, but it isn't
|

maybe they love loveless so much and want to give this another chance before 3ing it?
and i dont think there is actuall somone like that
xpt maybe skele

it isn't a phenomenon specific to this release, and i'm not discussing it as such. that was just a
springboard; seeing so many people clearly doing it here and in other places
of course there are people like that. it's one of the most basic and common psychological archetypes

Well I agree with you there. Some people are going to follow the crowd to fit in but I dont think anyone can just force themselves to like music they dont like. Like I said Ive tried countless times to like certain genres more than I do but its just not there.
People are just excited cuz this is mbvs first album in 22 years.

i know i am!! i waited liike a full month for it

Also you have to take into consideration that big albums like this get people with all different tastes checkin em out. The whole site knows about it. If this was an underground shoegaze album then everyone listening to it would already like shoegaze, but a big album like this will attract people from different areas that might not and actually need it to grow on them.

well the irony in the "first in 22 years" hype is how few of those people have actually waited 22 years. i'm not saying they are in any way inferior because they aren't a trve fan, but the hype is totally bought for them; it's not organic, and it is something they are, for the most part, giving in to

for instance, if you discovered loveless one year ago, and are "excited" because this is the first mbv in 22 years, that feeling of so-called hype is inorganic and bought into. you didn't wait 22 years

oh ok i guess i understand everything except your use of the word "organic"

the person is creating it, therefore it is inorganic; synthetic
