rocky is just having fun idk that i would call it dumbing down at all. his music is so effectively written. it doesn't have to be profound to be smart, there's something to be said for a guy who knows what he's doing with his sound like rocky clearly does, and there was still thought put into making this a cohesive album. nothing about this is dumb is all i'm saying.

yeah i pretty much agree. "dummying it down" is a little harsh.

but he definitely made longliveasap to have some level of mass appeal as compared to liveloveasap (classic tape)

yeah i agree with that. i'd argue populism is usually a perfectly valid approach to music though, except in the case of trite mainstream pandering, but i think the vast majority of pop albums are actually fairly genuine and most pop artists probably genuinely love the stuff they do.

livelove was way too strong for him to not become a mainstream darling on his follow-up, and i think he handled his major-label debut really gracefully. it isn't nearly as good as livelove imo, but it's still strong.

my last.fm scrobbler breaks itunes so i haven't been able to rack up plays recently. fucking lame. main attrakz are probably my most listened artist ever at this point, but it's always CDs in my car. i jammed a fuck ton of live.love.asap when i first heard it tho, probably in my top 10 most played albums.

most of the shit with high scrobble counts for me is still screamo

i've listened to so much orchid and loma it's absurd, last.fm probably hasn't counted a lot of it either.

you're probably just listening to mainstream rap then
Name a single new decent serious/lyrical/conscious rapper that came out in last 3 years?
