Scott has had a relatively good career even after IV or V.

There is potential for me to like this more than Seer, although this too will not be making my best of list. There are great moments but it keeps doing things I just can't take seriously.

I love the first 4 'Scotts', and everything from 'The Climate of Hunter' to now. I loved The Drift as well, I thought it was good
but it was missing some much needed excitement. It relied to much on ominous atmospheres to sell itself, this one is much
more dynamic and extra weird, which is why I like it.
I might 4.5 it soon.

the drift missed in terms of actual content at times i guess but the feel and environment the album engrossed you in was sick. if this is better id be really really impressed because what he achieved with the drift was stellar and only lacking in a few areas.

Oh yeah, no doubt about it. And it was supposed to be centered around inducing that creepy environment, and I loved the album for it. I just felt there was a lot of repetition. Scott Walker is just much more unrestrained in this one, I have no idea what the fuck he's doing half the time (i.e. farting noises), but he's really expanded his style and I admired him for it.

I agree. I just wish in certain parts it didn't sound like he was trying too hard to sound ominous. It is better his voice is surrounded noises and he is belting stuff out. The parts where it silent save for his whisper singing really break the experience for me.

Yeah he did that in the longer songs a lot, and I felt he was being a bit overly dramatic there too. But I still liked the overall
songs.

I think the silences are only an issue in Corpse De Blah, they really add a neat effect in most other places.
If anyone can get their hands on the booklet that comes with the album, the way the lyrics are written out to trace the music is interesting, and the notes related to certain lyrics.

Alright, after reading the Tiny Mix Tapes review, I am vindicated. I knew there was a lot more going on in this album than could be heard with just a few listens. With time, I could definitely see this being a 4.5.
