Stand by Me is the best song here.

"This album was pretty much the death of britpop, but that being said, at least it went out with a bombastic, over the top, egotistical explosion. To say this album is bloated would definitely be an understatement; too many songs here are far too long to be constructed like the singles that they are. All in all though, this is Oasis at their most shameless and cockiest, and I think that just being so full of itself is what made this such a unique pop rock album that defined who they were at that point in this band's career, even if them imploding wasn't a good point. For me, this album is still a big disappointment, but it's also still a lot of fun, anthematic, and reckless like rock that's polished up enough to slide into the pop radio waves should be."
This.
Still genuinely enjoy this album, the scream they do just shy of 3:00 in Fade In-Out is one of my favourite moments in music.

@breakingthefragile - You sum it up perfectly.
This is an album that I really really wanted to like. I don't think Noel Gallagher gets enough credit as a songwriter over here in the States, and some of his writing (both lyrics and melody) is absolutely brilliant. That being said, this is when he was basically like "well fuck everyone everywhere" and just did whatever the fuck he did like without a second thought. I admire him for doing that. But in the end, Oasis was all about the hooks. And there are few, if any great hooks on this entire album. I guess that people expected more and it just seems like a huge letdown in the end cause of the two albums that came previously.
Also, I've never listened to SOTSOG all the way through before, but I might do it for my next review. I wonder if I'll end up liking it more than this, I can't really see how I wouldn't, though. At least the majority of the songs aren't fucking 7 minutes long.

SOTSOG is tied as their best imo (with Definitely Maybe). A genuinely interesting and sonically satisfying psychedelic rock record.

^I couldn't even decipher half of the hooks because of all the sonic noise. I listened to SOTSOG today and I was pleasantly surprised by how good some of the songs were.
