^hopefully an indication that the band realized they should go back to nick and let stephen write more songs/riffs

Just thought I’d stop by and say Pink Cellphone is the worst thing in existence.

As much as I love SNW I have to agree with that. That single outro ruins what would easily be an easy 5 for me.

Gore is better than Adrenaline and also lol at Gore being a complete KNY retread, those two records have nothing in common thematically or stylistically.

Imagine thinking Gore and KNY have nothing in common

I still like Gore to a certain extent... but it’s definitely the most style-over-substance album they’ve ever made.

I’ve always thought the common consensus was that KNY was a retread of Diamond Eyes...

That I can understand, even though I think KNY is that formula perfected. But I can’t understand someone thinking that Gore is a ripoff of Koi.

How is KNY a retread of DE? KNY is like their most dense, gorgeous, ambitious album and probably my favorite from them.

DE is half nu-metal throwback and half stuff like White Pony and SNW.

Gore also isn't a retread, it's their lightest release and most varied probably. All are great in their own ways.

And what exactly is everyone’s problem with Gore aside from the admittedly shit production? I still think it’s one of their weaker albums but Prayers / Triangles, Geometric Headdress, Hearts / Wires (dat intro), the t/t, Phantom Bride, and Rubicon are just as good as any of their best tracks.

Agreed completely.

Gore would be one of my favorites if it didn't sound so bad in places, purely due to the production and mixing.

I agree completely, and Koi is my favorite Deftones record btw. I’ve always felt those two records work really well as companion pieces, I just think they both have a lot in common is all.

I just think Gore is boring and the band sounds like they're on autopilot

to each his own friend but I just disagree. Watching performances like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrjkjeSBtEk&app=desktop

make it seem like they’re just as inspired as ever. I caught them live twice right after Gore dropped and they were two of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

I can see DE and KNY kind of being companion albums, they definitely have some similarities.

A main reason Gore doesn't connect with some fans is the shitty production/mixing coupled with lighter songwriting, even more hard rock and dream pop than before, so all of that together makes it more elusive and less engaging.

I hear that but I’ve always loved the shoegaze-y moments in their discography so I guess that’s why I love it so much. The transition from Geometric Headdress to Hearts is sublime, and LMIRL’s intro is just gorgeous.

Yeah I agree, it's nice that Chino loves dream pop and shoegazing while Stephen Carpenter and maybe others in the band are more metal inclined. Makes for a nice balance.

I'm dying for any hints about the direction of the new album, the suspense is killing me
