I think it sounds closer to koi than this, it has some pretty progressive elements. Not NEARLY as heavy as this. Closest to koi and SNW than anything else in their ouevre

I still say it makes zero sense as a follow up to White Pony, to me this feels like a step back in a lot of ways to Around the Fur where SNW feels like the natural progression.

I think they were just in a mentally darker place recording/writing this, obviously the music reflects that. But I get what you mean for sure. I think it perplexed many as a follow-up to WP. I remember a lot of people being disappointed when it came out but I instantly gravitated towards it. I was also a raging coke head and alcoholic when it came out though so mentally I was in a very similar spot (also broke up with my girlfriend sometime soon after it came out, compounding matters).
