if so, you could work backwards and get their 2011 album All Eternals Deck, which is really good too. if you want to head for his most accessible, likable albums, check out The Sunset Tree, We Shall All Be Healed, or Tallahassee, and go from there. If lo-fi stuff tickles your fancy more, check out The Coroner's Gambit, All Hail West Texas, or Transmissions to Horace.

if u are looking for dark music then u are checking out the wrong band -- perhaps the satanic messiah ep will appeal to you though. as far as melancholic, a lot of darnielle's material is thematically depressing but a straight up SAD MTN GOATS album doesn't rly exist
