[ Edit ] For me they've reached a wider audience nowadays because they extol the virtues of a true rock band which in this

day and age is more or less non-existent.

Unfortunatley anyone who rocked out prior to 2000 had it all from everywhere and Swans meant/mean nothing.

There ya go dudes.

It's funny that you say that because I adore this band's control. Their songs always seem to be very well-thought out dynamically.

Honestly very very few artists can compose a 30-minute song without exercising a complete failure at quality control
Then again I'm the guy who listened to the entirety of the 24-hour Flaming Lips song so don't mind me!

I actually really enjoyed My Father Will Guide Me but that's because there's none of Gira's sad attempts at "harsh" vocals and it isn't like fifteen hours long

most of their stuff wouldnt work if there wasn't a shit ton of repetition and monotony

its pretty clear their intention on this and most of their other stuff ive heard is to wear you the fuck out and reduce you down to your most primal state which isn't really possible w/o like 20 minute long songs of terrifying apocalyptic sounding yelling and banging

Yeah tbh I've only listened to their last two albums without interruptions maybe once or twice each... they're just too long to listen to without life interfering. But they're still very consistent so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
