Sexpoi, we have pretty much identical feelings about Meshuggah.

They should have kept the Uncollective as an instrumental. Vocals are meh! Album is really short too and going towards a more Tesseract feel. Only song that stuck out was Doxa and maybe Degenerate but that's being kind. Overall 5/10 not very impressed :/

Vooligan- it's cool to see others share similar thoughts. I always thought most metal fans on this site were huge fans of Meshuggah or maybe I'm just over-generalizing from the comments I've seen.

Chuck- I've actually only heard Catch ThirtyThree, Obzen, and Koloss so that's what I'm judging them on. I'll give Nothing a listen and see if I can get into it.

This is probably a 3 for me. Not really a fan of the vocals and it can get boring after a while.

Meshuggah's good in small doses, but they've never been able to hold my attention for more than a few songs.

Having said that, they fucking slay live.

Meshuggah is a band I've always held to be more important than they are good. Granted, they are quite amazing in every way, but the hype surrounding them makes them out to be a little more than they actually are.

very true with the small doses thing. I find it hard to listen all the way through an album of theirs. The grooves are sweet and the drumming is also quite good but after a while you sort of notice a similar formula going on which, to be honest, can be found in a lot of these djent-style bands these days, too. Sometimes it seems like they worked so hard on the grooves that they forgot to overdub a lead in there to break the monotony.

Yeah I have to agree, the djent sound is becoming saturated.

Doxa kicks so much ass.

I really wish there were more cleans on this, though. Hell, I wouldn't mind if the whole album was just cleans.

Been having a hard time trying to figure whats so good about these guys. Am close to 2.5 this.

Meshuggah rules tons (TONS). Yes, people should try to stop justifying the existence of every Djent band with "Meshuggah rip-off". That happened to Death Metal, Thrash, wtv. The difference is that those genres had dozens of flag carriers, Math Metal had Meshuggah, so they're the only ones trve metvl people can turn to in order to diminish young talented bands like Fellsilent, Tesseract, Periphery etc. Every "wave" starts from somewhere, this is no different.

Was excited about this album at first but didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It grew on me and I find myself playing it quite a bit.
