Great album, the song "removed forms" is in my opinion and instant black metal classic...

Cold Of Ages is Ash Borer's coming-of-age album. Without losing a shred of their identity, the band has cleaned up the production (slightly) and tightened their musicianship, allowing the music, rather than the atmosphere, to take the foreground. Though certainly a maturation of Ash Borer's sound, its begs the question whether or not growing up is really a good thing.
Some bits drag on too long, but when this is good, its superb.

I don't really hear maturation; just a bigger budget.

Music like this should always be recorded in a shoebox with a tape recorder.

I still hate everything about the recording process involved here. And the fact that the rhythm guitar never seems to be going fast enough/making enough noise.

They'll probably have a record out next year though so here's hoping they fix their sound.

So apparently one of the guys from Ash Borer and the drummer dude from Fell Voices did a raw bm project together called Vanum and their album Realm Of Sacrifice is going to be out in June on Profound Lore
