Remember the original progressive rock bands of the '70s? They were moving rock in new directions - incorporating

influences from classical and jazz, and using sounds which had never been heard in a rock context before. They were

truly progressing the genre. Some bands these days still do that to some extent - Opeth combined death metal, folk,

and prog in a novel way, and The Mars Volta combined '70s prog with salsa and free jazz, etc. - but most so-called

'progressive' bands today simply take the name to mean 'long, technical songs with time signature changes'. There's

nothing progressive about that kind of music - it's just become another label for a tradition. Someone really needs to

put the progressiveness back into progressive/rock metal and display some new ideas instead of rehashing those of the

past - but that certainly isn't what The Faceless are doing with this record.

Make no mistake - aside from the muddled mix, awful concept/lyrics, and occasional tasteless parts, this would be an

amazing record if all the albums I cited in my review didn't exist. But they do, and thus everything this album does has

been done better maaaany times before.

BodomThrash: Have you listened to the album? They are now trying to be the new Opeth.

Sixdegrees: I stated pretty clearly that the album is very poorly executed compared to its predecessors. What more do

you need?

lol I guess there's no point trying to engage anyone in a meaningful discussion here. I type long reviews and responses

and all I get for a response is 'LOL NO UR DUM, UR WRONG' with no elaboration between that. 'Shit review', no reasons

why. Why even bother commenting if you're not going to explain yourself?

"Even the production of this album is under par. Keene's production for other bands (Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya) has always sounded quite awful"

no shit, genius
