Dylan is one of the all time greats but I still don't think he's literature. The poems in his liner notes are literature, and they're ... uh ... sometimes interesting.

best dylan agreed.
and ya, him winning the nobel prize for literature was kind of dumb. iirc he himself didn't even accept it.

guys can anybody explain to me how come sharing songs on yt etc is "illegal" and uploads are taken down constantly but there are whole sites filled with song lyrics and nobody has ever had a problem with them

I feel like the answer to this is pretty obvious but likely it's almost certainly because the song lyrics are not the actual thing whereas putting the actual song on youtube is. Also you can rip and theoretically disseminate the audio from a video and the poster can profit from it whereas nobody profits from the lyrics posted on websites (I mean, except for employees of sites like Genius but that's not exactly a whole ton of people and even then they're making money from the ad revenue not from the actual content posted).

i see what you mean but if you think about it, it really is kinda weird. i mean surely nobody takes lyrics from artists like can or ween seriously but take dylan or cohen. in the case of these artists the lyrics are a lot of the time more important than music, and i'm pretty sure more effort goes into writing them than writing the actual music. it's pretty strange then that all these lyrics are considered worthless in a way. dylan won a nobel prize for lyrics ffs and you can look these up - nobel prize winning poetry! - for free on a 1000 sites but on yt you won't find one studio version of his songs, which are quite often just simple variations on a 100 year old blues.
again i see the line of reasoning, but i still find it strange that real poetry sometimes better than what actual poets write is treated so differently just because it lines up with a song. not that i'm complaining.
btw people who post not-their stuff on yt also get money from ad revenue and not the actual content posted in pretty much exactly the same way employees of sites like Genius do. i don't think that's the issue here though as i doubt many people who post not their music on yt monetize these videos.

So many emotions, this album is Dylan in his most intense and raw condition.
