It would be better if it were one song, they always felt too slight on their own

Yeah opening an album with two under 2 minute songs doesn’t make much sense to me otherwise. I can see opening with an interlude, then going into the real opening song...but this is two short songs, not interludes.

Leave that opening with an interlude shit to Trivium bro

These guys are the hardest 3.5 band that exists for me. I had only heard SFTD years ago and decided to go through their discog. The debut, Rated R, SFTD and this are all 3.5s for me. They all rock and are very well written, but I just don’t seem to emotionally connect. Homme is so cool, calm and collected. That’s fine, but I just prefer my lyrics and singers to be more emotional, passionate, unhinged, depressed lol.

Those are the kind of vocals you'll always get in stoner rock. The vocals perk up on their last 2 albums

Awesome, good to hear. he has a great voice, it’s just the delivery that doesn’t fully connect with me.
This is one of those bands I really want to love, but just can’t seem to no matter how hard I try. Definitely solid though. I’ll buy any album they release from here on out. But it’s one of those cases where I mostly blame myself for not really getting it. It is what it is. I look forward to checking out the rest of their discog though, especially Like Clockwork. The whole backstory behind it makes it sound more up my alley.
Favorite songs so far FYI:
You Can’t Quit Me Baby
Walkin on the Sidewalks
Auto Pilot
Better Living Through Chemistry
In the Fade (by FAR my fav song of these guys. Fuck, I love it so much. Wish the rest of their material connected like this)
A Song for the Dead
A Song for the Deaf
Mosquito Song
Tangled up in Plaid
Little Sister
Someone’s in the Wolf

Their albums just tend to have too many meh/filler-ish songs to me, but when they shine, they really shine. Which actually makes the inconsistency more frustrating.

Gonna start digging into it tomorrow so I’ll drop my thoughts on the Era review/thread.

How would you rank them out of curiosity?
Seems that Rated R, SFTD and LC are considered their best, while Era and Villains are generally considered worst.
