This was much better than I was expecting after Marrow, so I am pleased. It doesn't, however, even touch their old stuff. I like how heavy - how unexpectedly heavy - this was, but the riffs are still lacking and the variety in instrumentation isn't nearly as important a feature as before.

There are a fair few things that need fixin' in this here review, such as:

For a band with such a mutual creative talent, it's a lot better for them to just let them continue forging their own path and not paying attention to what people want or expect.

remove the second 'them' and change 'paying' to 'pay'. Mostly small stuff like that, otherwise, what Xeno said.

Also, 'farcry' is two words, not one.

I absolutely love this. I feel like a lot of people on this site will never listen to agalloch again unless they release Ashes pt. II

Dropping the acoustic atmosphere is seriously going to kill Agalloch for me. But I do like how they upped the production standard on this one. Did not expect this to be so heavy.

i don't think they're dropping it at all, it would have distracted from the heart of this ep which definitely isn't nature or atmospherics. i can definitely see why it wouldn't be to the liking of a lot of people but i can p. much assure you that this isn't a permanent direction. or at least if it is, i'll likely be in the same boat. :]

Great review.

Need to give this another listen before I can form a proper opinion but I definitely found it enjoyable upon first listen.
