if you're expecting each new release from a death metal band to be unique amongst their discography, you will be disappointed

I don't think they'll tbh. Their best years seem to be behind them, although they proved some people wrong with TWtGD. It's still quality material more or less though. I think the closest they got to a 5 is probaly Shrines.

Pretty solid discography. Black Seeds, Those Whom and Ithyphallic have been recurrent jams this summer.

Yeah, had to bump the rating for this, as 3 seemed a little on the lower side afterall. Solid discog agreed so I'll give it a try:
Shrines > AotW = TWtGD > Ithyphallic > Black Seeds > Catacombs > Sethu > WtA

i don't think their best days are behind. like i said i consider sethu and ithyphallic to be nearly as good as shrines and annihilation.

Pretty solid discography [3]
This and Ithyphallic get too much hate. Can't really rank them without going through second thoughts. That said Shrines is definitely my favorite one, even though my heart says Catacombs too. Smashing the Antiu was such an unexpected bang that I still remember the first time I heard it with a sense of excitement.
That tasty Argus dig too, fantastic album.

Ithyphallic grew on me recently and Sethu is also a grower but at the moment Black Seeds and Those Whom are my favs. Black Seeds is their darkest release, in my opinion, I dig the album's dark vibe.
Yeah, Argus is great.

nile is the kind of band who'll never release a 5. They have too a niche a sound, which they perected with annilhilation and with whom. There is not much else they can do other than make a big change to their sound.

@Anthracks_ I certainly don't hope so. I mean, if the tendency of chronologically odd-numbered (or even-numbered) 'masterpiece/milestone' albums continues, they might as well have that 5 in them you're waiting for.

@Notrap: I'd say the amount of darkness kind of depends on how much you let yourself immerse in the cover artwork. Does it make any sense?

Album Rating: 3.5
The cover is an important element in establishing the mood of the album, in a way that helps to visualize the music. But I think the main thing is the music, lyrics and also the sound engineering.
I would say that the amount of darkness, or something else, depends on how much you let yourself immerse in the music.

No denying on that. But let's note that I'm specifically talking about Nile. I meant that, considering the intensity of their music and the fact that all of their artworks are grim in their own way, the artworks play a big role.

Sure, the artwork is also important. That's a fact.
