This is the good shit. I may prefer Kenose and / or Veritas Diaboli Manet in Aeternum (definitely copy / pasted that one) but their EPs are strong generally

There was really a point where this was my favorite Deathspell release. I’d still say it’s for sure the best thing to show someone that doesn’t know the band.
I might get crucified for this take but there’s bits and pieces of this that read as metalcore to me, and the shorter songs for sure help with that

Maybe not strinctly metalcore but I can definitely hear some mathcore here and there. Very strong EP.

Definitely one of if not their most accessible. It can be argued that they have metalcore/mathcoreesque riffing but mathcore also doesn’t have a monopoly on cool odd time grooves. Tbf they do get into the habit of alternating chugs and chord stabs like a metalcore band sometimes but I feel like the guitar tone and overall style take me really far away from that. I’ve heard chug chug breakdowns on Immolation records. But it probably isn’t that far out, they gave Dillinger praise in one of their interviews so they’ve at least heard math records.

I’m not at all shocked these guys like math bands.

There is a correlation between math and disso-death for sure.

They did mention TDEP as well as Botch but they also said they hadn’t heard of those bands until their producer on Kénôse asked if they’d been listening to them when he heard the material they brought. They go on to say they are very good while also citing their actual inspirations

Might have taken some small influence on later projects. Definitely some bouncy chugs present on Fas, this, Furnaces, etc.
