So uh, what's the appeal of this album? Just sounds like a mix of The Human Abstract and a wannabe Protest The Hero. No thanks.

Basically listen if you wan't more of the Human Abstract instrumentation? Although good, I don't see the appeal either.

Venice is Sinking and Best Laid Plans are the best.

To me this sounds like The Human Abstract mixed with some I am Abomination + some random other genre influence. A 3.5 that could become a 4 maybe.

Grew on me a bit, it seems more simple at first than it actually is

It's really good. I just think some songs are way too short. Venice Is Sinking could have been so much longer.

Pretty good album.

It may take some time to grow on me because of the whiny vocals.

For me the vox are somewhat high-pitched but not whiny. Agree that they could flesh some of the shyte out more (I felt like they could have executed the ending to best laid plans better), everything is < 3:15 basically lol

I guess the nonconstructive approach would be to say they need to suck less, yeah. lol

But seriously, I think I want to 3.5 it and then I hear Best Laid Plans and Panacea and realize its probably more of a 4 (FOR ME)

Sorry my opinion is skewed by being from me though lol.

I'm thinking a 3.5 is in order. Good band, lots of talent, just lacking in how they articulate their talent. They are doing quite a great job at getting their name out there however.

How dynamic are this band? I heard their single and it was pretty poor because it basically was all high frequencies.

Singing's cool.

Melody's cool too.

Well, a 4 would definitely be too much for this. It's a solid 3.5 album, they definitely have a lot of aspects to improve upon. This is nowhere as solid an album as e.g. PTH's Kezia was.

Protest had been together way longer when releasing Kezia...They knew each other's tastes and knew how to make them sound good. That, in my opinion, is why Kezia was such a good "first" release. (I know it was number 2, but even Protest don't wanna acknowledge that Calculated Use of Sound happened...and this is from someone who sometimes listens to it)
