how does no one else see the genius of Songs?
you know she recorded everything on that album in one take, right? I think I need to write a review for it. Top 10 of all-time sort of album for me, gets no love.
Soviet Kitsch is amazing too, but Songs man. Fucking Songs.

'how does no one else see the genius of Songs?'
the only reason I don't have Songs 5'd is because Soviet Kitsch exists

Regina Spektor's albums for me are all about personal connection.
Songs I heard for the first time at 3AM as I was trying to catch some sleep in the back of a car, headed from a super christain wedding in Dublin, to a small town on the southern coast of Ireland, at least six hours away, for a super un-christain, druken sailing regatta. It was so weird, so twisted, and I kept nodding off. It was like a strange, surrealistic dream. "....is 32 still a god damn number"...."now that we've got that straight, can't i just be left alone, i want to take a fucking bath" etc. etc. SO WEIRD
Far I bought the day it came out, but I was backpacking at the time and bought it in Salzburg, Austria. It was a month before I could have a CD player of my own (sort of) to consistently play it with and listen to (again, in Ireland), but it was worth the wait.
Soviet Kitsch is an amazing album and I've always really liked it, bought I bought it at HMV in my lame hometown and listened to it while while driving to work at Costco so...
for me, it's all about those strange connections and memories I have with her albums. this new one had a fair chance too: I listened to the stream when I FINALLY had reliable internet, at my hostel in Brussels, then I bought the CD in Truro, southwest England, and listened to it all summer, but it's not top-tier Spektor for me.
