New single seems like a bit of a throwback. Less atmospheric, more hooks.

New song is crazy good imo. Definitely like the more catchy side theyre going for.

It's not as strong and unique as Evolution, I think. I know they're not going to make the same album(s) over again, but both the riffing and Emery's vocals make the band feel a tad...unoriginal. It's like a good song by a faceless progressive post-hardcore band.

It's strange hearing Skyharbor without Dan, but it sounds pretty damn good aside from that. Less atmospheric, more hooks. [2]

Man I wish they'd return to this style.

Guiding Lights grew on me a bit, but it was still a little airy fairy.

Supposedly they've gone heavy again on the new record. Seeing them next weekend. Hopefully they play some new tunes.

This was an enjoyable listen. A conservative rating for now. Shame it seems like their debut was their peak.

It definitely was, I'll agree. Dan did such a great job while he was with this band.

Guiding lights is definitely a better album. Not as many good riffs, but definitely a better vocal performance. There are moments on this where it's clear that Dan's vocals were a last minute addition and weren't a part of the writing process at all.

I will agree though that Guiding Lights had the better vocal performance. This one has a pretty solid performance as well to an extent, but I can see how it would've been a last minute effort.

I can agree with that. One of my favorites would be the ending of Celestial.

jammed this and the follow up for the first time last night and they both ruled and kick the ass of every tesseract release

Wouldn't say they kick tesseract's ass, but they're great albums. Hard to believe it's been a decade since this came out.

Coming back to this album after a long break, aged really well compared to some of its peers in djenty prog-metal.

Probably because it has a lot more melody and doesn't rely too much on the djent and being mathy.
