Yeah, just saw it on their facebook. "Indefinite hiatus to take time on ourselves individually etc. etc. blah"

Jeeze, people. Stop having personal lives and just be music making robots for me.

starts off well but the second half is really lacking the energy i think they need for their sound to work, the softer stuff just doesn't do much

This really isn't anything too special but it has it's moments. I really really love the ending to "Impossible Landscape," musically it's almost perfect.

Hmm, a bit disappointing. The Complexity of Light was so energetic and had so many great vocal melodies.

I feel like with this album, they "averaged-out" their sound, if it could be defined in a figurative little capsule, and seeded the whole album with that one sound. That works for some bands (look at Purity Ring's debut), but not for a single sound that lacks dynamism.

So while there are 3-4 standout tracks, the rest of the songs, and then the impression you get of the album as a whole, end up being very same-y and eventually boring.

And yeah, the dude sings too much. That sounds like it shouldn't make sense when talking about a vocalist, but every...single...word...he sings is drawn waaaaaay out over top of some really cool instrumentation.

More falsetto, more little flourishes, more breaks to let the band breath.

They're not a bad band by any means and are very talented, but this feels like a step-back from the EP creatively.

Spotify keeps telling me to listen to these guys. I always dig more progressive/experimental rock/post-hardcore.

MeatSalad..

Its been nearly 6 years since you made your comment about CoN being as prog as coheed and cambria, and I know there is like 0 chance you will see this but I needed to say it.

CoCa has been my favorite band for most of my life, and I just happened to get CoN recommended to me so I gave them a listen. I am really into them, kinda like if Closure in Moscow and CoCa had a baby.

My biggest issue though, and relating to back to your first comment: Instead of sounding influenced by Coheed, there are guitar riffs in the title track as well as The Fall of Aphonia that are near carbon copy of previous CoCa riffs.. Like I know the old saying that everything has already been written and all that, but they could have tried a bit harder to be original. Same with the vague plot behind the concept of the album. There were parts of that EP where I had major cognitive dissonance; I would feel myself getting super into a track and then outta nowhere I'll hear something in the guitar part of the vocal melody that immediately makes me think of whichever Coheed song it was taken from. It isnt even a case where I hear it and I go "Hmm that sounds familiar, I think Ive heard that before" I usually can pinpoint which song and part it was ripped from.

It is almost ironic to say this because their sound really does come off as super original and more creative than most other bands around in the scene, but any diehard Coheed fan would probably pick up on the ripoff/paying homage or being influenced by.

That sounded lamer than I meant it to.. I mean people who have listened to their entire discography/know of the mythos rather than people who know them as that band that did Welcome Home and Favor House Atlantic. (Though they would probably call it Bye bye Beautiful..) This is coming from someone who actually is super into CoN regardless of all that because of how good they sound. But you cant tell me that you don't hear one of the main riffs from In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 during the one bridge of The Fall of Aphonia.. It is like a single note off with barely different rhythm.

END RANT. I don't know why I am even posting this. The band broke up years ago and no one is going to read this, but for anyone who happens to listen to them and have always thought the same thing, it is not just you!
