Score = correct. Average record with a couple of nice tunes and solid production to boost it up to 3. Can't see myself returning to this often. Simple song is the best on here, not suprised that's what they picked as a single (if my memory is correct).

i don't understand what so many of you don't see in the shins. james mercer writes THE BEST melodies in indie. i really don't see what this album lacks. the production is flawless, the songwriting is incredible, the instrumentals are creative and interesting, and the lyrics have cool imagery and a lot of relatable lines (to me).

"We already knew Mercer could write a great Shins album – the question now is if he can ever become more than just the Shins."
why does mercer need to become "more than just the shins"?? i like the shins perfectly fine! just appreciate the fantastic songwriting. not all music needs to be progressive.

IT CAN'T BE TRUE THIS ALBUM MUST BE SAVIOR OF WORLD

Album Rating: 2.5
Spare, I bet you will like it well enough, but it will not maintain your interest beyond the first few listens. The energy that drove Wincing The Night Away has all but evaporated on this album. I love the Shins, but this is a huge disappointment, especiallly after such a creatively stimulating, buoyant third record as Wincing.
