I really really really really hope this isn't bad.

If so, perhaps Max Bemis really is ruining this band.

"It’s the safest thing since airbags, to be sure, but there’s also a tangible lack of friction, and a lack of friction often means no heat."

wtf! Why have you moved across two completely unrelated metaphors in one clause? It is rather confusing. At least for us stupid types.

And yes, this was a cliche review, I know. I've made some changes to the text since though (thanks acad).

I owe an apology to acad - when I had spoken to Eisley's press manager I was linked to a page that helped give some historical context to Deep Space, but in my interview I'm told that there's no real theme. Anyway, the interview can be found here - it's the first of the featured content on this site: http://www.muzikdizcovery.com/

Hot on the heels of their excellent 3rd LP 'The Valley', Texan quintet Eisley return with a 5 track EP titled 'Deep Space'. Making use of the shorter form to experiment a little, this may in fact be Eisley's most diverse release to date, with some arresting atmospheres creeping into their music. Of course, not everything works... & it's nowhere near as personal as their previous albums. But who can resist listening to the charming vocal harmonies of the Dupree sisters for 20 odd minutes? It will definitely be interesting to see how much of these influences creep into album #4. Recommended Tracks: Lights Out & Deep Space.

I must say, it did take me a while. I remember the 1st time I heard it, I was a bit "WTF". Sort of glad I didn't review it, because I am pretty certain I would have rated it lower than I eventually did.

I found it to be immediately accessible, but it took me a while to fully appreciate it. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of this EP too -- it lacks the personal touch of their other albums, and not everything done here sticks, but it's still an enjoyable, unashamedly poppy/quirky release. You should check out my interview if you get a chance.

Well, put it this way, I'd rather they experiment a little on an EP like this, than on their next LP. It will be interesting to see how much this influences LP #4 though.

I think they'll make a return to their quirky/more playful stuff - The Valley was surrounded by negative experiences.
