Well it's not like I toned it down artificially!

I know... but not even 4.5?!

Is this worth checking out if their first album was too cheesy for my taste? It sounds from the review like they might have dialed it back a bit.

Depends on what you found cheesy in the first one. Regardless, this one would probably feel at least a little less cheesy because of the hip-hop influences instead of pure happy strings and horns the whole time.

Both albums are pretty God damn cheesy. In the best possible way.
|
| |
haha yeah. Probably give it a listen to see at some point. It's weird what cheesy things people can tolerate. Can't stand power metal and to a much lesser degree Fun!'s first album, but I like Ziltoid the Omniscient. I'm such a hypocrite.

The "cheese" factor here definitely wears a tuxedo as opposed to Aim And Ignite's sandals.

album's pretty okay. Might bump up

I can't decide whether I love this or hate it.

You love it. I always wait for it to die after the first two songs but it just doesn't. It just doesn't.

Everything sounds like Queen these days. These guys, Foxy Shazam...
Anyway, this seems to be quite forgettable, definitely not nearly as good as Aim And Ignite.

production is suuuuuuuuuuper glossy. don't know about it yet. some nights is awesome though

I can't help but like everything Nate Ruess releases. =/
Great review, last line is so true!
I love how Nate's lyricism is so brutally honest on this album. He doesn't fancy dress what he says in
metaphors; he literally tells it how it is.

i decided i like the production, wish i had a download not just the stream

I'm gonna get a physical copy, play it on my CD player. Really looking forward to it! =)
Love Nate Ruess' work. My favourite track is oddly either Some Nights, Why Am I The One or Stars? Not sure why people don't like Stars... reminds me of Woods by Bon Iver towards the end.

this sounds like something ill hate
i mean i hate fun anyway so

@steo
I like the very end of Stars with the vocoder-heavy vocals, but the autotune/vocoder effect throughout the middle of the song is a little bit overwhelming after a minute or so

Lol I nearly made the "Woods" reference in the review, Steo, but I figured it would be pretty misrepresentative since there's practically nothing this album has in common with Bon Iver.
|

I quite like the effect but I know what you mean. I feel the same way about 'It Gets Better'. It can be a little overwhelming at first too.
