Review Summary: martin van drunen, bitch
Oh man this is a good one. Featuring van fuckin DRUNEN formally of Pestilence, the album hits hard. The first song The Quest Of Absurdity is some crazy sci-fi sounding music, like it would fit well in Langoliers. The 2nd song accurately titled VERMIN is where the real *** comes in. Never have i heard such brutal and true production. it like being kicked in the head with a clog. As you will soon notice the vocals are easily the best part of the album, Drunen really knows how to sing with passion, he really sounds like hes in agony, like being forced to listen to la dispute. The title track really stands out as its long as ***, dooms hard and rules. Honestly its hard talking about the tracks individually because they all sound pretty much the same, but they all rule so its not like thats a bad thing. I call it the Bolt Thrower syndrome. The album is just so damn consistent, it never lets up. The riffs are filled with meaning and thought, like you can tell these guys meant what they were playing, not like these new fag stabwound bands. Bass wise its pretty gay, mostly inaudible which sucks because Drunen can slap the bass hard. The guitars are razor sharp and there are riffs that last for a long time, not quite everlasting but close. The drums are ok but lack fist in some places. Although this album is death metal, doom is also injected into the mix. This makes for a filthy cunt of an album that not only punches you in the kisser, but kicks your dick too.
If you like death metal or death/doom then get this album, well you probably already have it but if you dont then get on it. The riffs slay, the vocals are disgusting and the album rules and is overall, Asphyx's best album.
