I get peoples feelings that this is muddled and incoherent regarding the middle three live songs, but I listened to this all the way through just now for the first time in a while and could pick out most everything that was going on musically. It's a lot better than I remembered, with some sections even in the middle three songs that could be described as beautiful. Lethe and the t/t are gorgeous, among the best songs the band have recorded. Really glad this and Blue Lambency have clicked for me recently after years of not really getting them.

Fuck yeah Talons. The production is perfect for this imo, it sounds like a nightmare. Oscillated God is nuts.

This is still underrated imo. I get why the production kills it for some people but I love it.

What good is It’s inventive nature if the quality of the music itself doesn’t give me any enjoyment? It’s definitely unique I’ll give you that, but all I get from this is muddy pretention, much like BLD. That album is his songwriting at his worst.

this is fun/ enjoyable as hell

nothing bad about BLD. some find it his best work. but if you dislike dissonance and psuedo free-jazz and rio, then i can see why you'd dislike it. but that album is methodical and is literally hyperfocused on how each instrument interacts with one another (through timing, timbre, texture, etc) to create each piece.

BLD is very good, I find that it takes the right mood when listening to get into it.

There’s your daily dose of hate from me xD since most of this site just throws this band 4.5s and 5s like tomatoes at a horrible comedy show

I’m just saying that because many people I’ve encountered in these threads act like you’re not allowed to hate anything Toby does lol. Guess that goes for many sput bands though. This just seems like one of the more prominent ones.

If it sounds like Mike Patton and Frank Zappa, it must be avant-garde.
