This one's much cleaner than Bath. I didn't want to compare the two albums but I actually think this is better than Bath. I'm just a sucker for violins. Anything that has a violin is automatically better imo.

>I understood the depth of motW's music perfectly.

>I didn't fall in love with the music of Maudlin of the Well until a couple days ago.

I listen to motW's albums months and years later and I'm still finding new things and interpretations and feelings. In Flames this ain't.

If the "m" in "maudlin" wasn't capitalized in this review I'd consider it a vast improvement.

i might like this as much as body map......not quite the constant beauty/perfection of bath but still truly outstanding in its best moments.

Says the guy who hasn't written one review. Sorry, but when I see someone bashing someone else for trying to improve, and yet hasn't done shit. Just because you don't agree doesn't make you the self-righteous crusader in the situation. You're just another retarded hater, except where trolls succeed, you fail in every single aspect.

P.S. If you're someone who hates Coldplay's albums when so many other people on this site like them, who's bashing someone else's opinion for simply not agreeing with it, you should probably just kill yourself. No wonder you gave the album a 5. You're just as pretentious as this album.

You're an idiot. You've called me retarded 3 times. That says a lot about how you try to win arguments without knowing anything about who you're arguing with in the most childish way possible.

And I didn't 5 this album you dumb fuck.

I have actually written a lot of music, but I wouldn't dare profess my newer hackneyed stuff as my older better songs, unlike Toby Driver did on this album. If these are older maudlin songs, then why do they have nothing separating this album from modern Kayo Dot albums, or even other post-rock albums in general? I wouldn't buy into what bands say about their own music so easily, since hearing is believing, and believing it with question or proof just shows how much you numbnuts really

don't get the whole "listening to music" aspect of listening to music.

4.5 is close enough. And I'm childish? Mr. "I'll say won't read this, but I'll skim it and make fun of it just because I disagree?"

P.S. "Dumb fuck" is just as much an insult as "retarded", moron. Says how much YOU "try to win arguments without knowing anything about who you're arguing with". Another tribute to your own childishness is the fact that you're resorting to using the arguments of other reviewers as a hopping-on point, because you can't come up with any yourself. Now, if you'll excuse me, I actually have a life to live outside the Sputnik comment boards on my own review. So, I bid you all a good day, and in the case of In Absentia, a terrible life in being attached to your computer eternally trolling.

Mild entertainment.

P.S. Interpreting In Flames' work is like trying to make a two-story house out of 5 bricks: there's nothing to really interpret. The lyrics are mostly generic enough to not interfere with the music. Interpreting motW however is like the knowledge of God: one person can interpet one way, another in another way, and so forth. Saying you're constantly find new interpretations about them is fine with me. I just interpret them differently. You find them extremely thought-provoking, I'd say they what the band said, they just reinterpret what they find in the astral realm.

With the exception of this album. Even though they SAY it's work from Bath/LYBM era, it SOUNDS like Kayo Dot's work. maudlin was never this homogenous and post-rock influenced as Kayo Dot is. And trust me: musicians have lied about their work before.
