Just wanted to add something else to Aso's post: I don't think any other band has a petition against them.

holy fuck matt, this is awesome. people keep saying you took too long to get into the review itself but honestly I really disagree, everything you said was absolutely worth saying, helped along by the fact that it was brutally honest and equally funny/entertaining to read. nice job man.

Aside from the record sales, their live shows regularly sell out in every location. Nickelback really isn't hated outside of the internet. Not even close being "universally" hated. 50,000 people signed an internet-wide petition? Big deal. That's not even the amount of people that will be at the stadium attending the game. There will be ~25 million viewers watching. Stop thinking the thoughts of a few internet users represents even a sizable minority of the population.

This is undeniably true and it fucking sucks but whatever. [just about] anyone with a brain can acknowledge that fact that Nickelback is an atrocity. But there are still a lot of witless dumbfucks out there who fail to realize how incredibly stale and shallow their music and the operation behind it is, hence they maintain a high level of popularity. For the most part, that's fine - I think it's safe to say that a lot of us don't often turn on the radio and therefore subject ourselves to hearing them, and we can certainly all avoid it and make our lives Nickelback-free without too much trouble. Yeah, the superbowl thing sorta sucks and all but it's not like it's difficult to turn it off at halftime for the duration of their set. I'd like to see America collectively do that and send whatever channel's ratings down the tube to let them know that Nickelback really is an embarrassment, but honestly I don't see it as that feasible, and I kinda want to watch in hopes of seeing them booed off stage. But we will see.

Kroeger had just this to say: "When you play a Nickelback show, I mean, there is every range of person that you could possibly imagine on the face of the earth [in the audience], and you couldn't peg one on the street to save your life... I think we can all pick out a Slipknot fan, but it's tough to pick out a Nickelback fan, because they're all so different."

Haha, that could actually happen. I mean, I've seen poor performers get booed after singing the NATIONAL ANTHEM so anything is possible.

I haven't signed it... I kind of want to see them go on and watch the reaction to them. Who knows, it might not be bad at all, but I'm kind of hoping for cries of displeasure and hate.
