It's all relative. It's a decent record on its own, it just compares poorly to many of the Yes albums that followed it.

not sure why the rating on this is so low, it is not the prog behemoths of Close, and Fragile, or The Yes album,

but, it is a very awesome debut, with a great beatles cover, and a strong closer, (which always earns points with me). This is a great starting and jumping off point for were they go in the next 8 years, and should be celebrated for that.

Excellent, but it is a weak 4, because, while the covers are on the whole great, "I See You" wastes two minutes for guitar noodling, while "Every Little Thing" has an out-of-place intro compared to the rest of the cover's execution. Also, "Harold Land" has a vocal melody that's too complex and constantly-changing for a pop number (the album's main goal), but at the same time not that cleverly constructed, nuanced or memorable. Other than that, the album is swell.

Eh, just disregard what I'm saying right now because I'm a moody fuck.

Admittedly, I like the guitar noodling a bit in I See You, because it really shows Peter Banks' skill off where he was often not in the spotlight that much for my taste. I honestly forgot what the rest of the album sounds like.

I've just given drama a first listen and I've got mixed feelings about it. I definitely miss Jon's voice and the keyboards' parts seem a bit too simplified in comparison to Wakeman's performances. Gonna give it another try but my first general impression is the band has lost its character and since almost everything after 90125 (excluding a few songs) sounded poor to me i'd rather stand by their earlier releases.

As for the debut I just consider it as a solid, promising effort. I love the arrangments driven by expressive style of chris in conjunction with the power of hammonds. I see you might be one of the best covers ever. In their original material the guys display the ability to create first noteworthy tunes. Especially Survival and Harold Land still sound fresh and quite mature to me. 3.5/5
