I never got into them either

I understand that I just hate when people say things like "it's cool to like" a band
because unless you are 9 years old you can probably make your own decisions as to what you like

I don't know man, most people have never heard anything that's not on the radio

most people being the percentage of the population that doesn't like music
anyone who takes an actual interest in their taste expands their experience to go beyond radio
or so I would hope

i really just wonder if people would still be listening to this if it wasn't a band they grew up with. i'm not saying people are rating this highly because it is trendy to do so, but i definitely think hype surrounding an album makes people more likely to not dismiss it, especially on sputnik, where i think you would admit "mainstream" pop-punk isn't the first thing most of us listen to.

I agree that growing up with any band makes people more likely to listen. But that doesn't make it good.
The fact that they can hook people with their name & expectations and still deliver something that even a predominantly indie site sees as an overwhelming success makes their achievement even more impressive

yeah i can see that. i probably won't check this out though.

I didn't check out the last two Sum 41 albums, but that's probably a bad comparison because this is most likely decent

Sum 41 is awful now
Yellowcard has remained pretty consistent, minus the hiatus

I always liked that song Rough Landing Holly, but I never bought one of their CDs

I was never that into Yellowcard, but I digged Only One for a while. I really like Soundtrack and Be the Young off this album, though. I need to give it a thorough listen.

I agree. Probably took the longest to grow on me out of any album that I actually listened to consistently. I just needed something to click and thanks to life, it finally did

I gave it a 3 and this was my conclusion paragraph:
In the end, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes serves as a tease for its fans. It touches on many of the band’s greatest strengths without ever really driving them home, which leaves more to be desired on a nearly constant basis. There are some great songs, such as the dynamic ‘For You and Your Denial’ and the ridiculously catchy ‘With You Around’, as well as a slew of solid to above average tracks that keep the album flowing rather nicely. However, even within its extremely consistent course, Yellowcard relies on their own back catalog too frequently, drawing both lyrical and musical ideas from Ocean Avenue and Paper Walls. The nostalgic factor is nice, but the problem with that is it only means something to fans who have been around long enough to appreciate them; and those are the same fans who will see the glaring holes in this album’s potential. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes is decent return to the scene for Yellowcard, but it really, really should have been so much more.

ahhhh, perhaps so dismissive an opinion on your part was my excuse for never having picked this up. i think i like this new perspective better... i'll have to give it a listen in the very near future.
