Nice review, though I see it a bit differently:
I personally prefer Absolution over Origin of Symmetry everyday. The only thing that kind of got on my nerves was the constant change of fast/heavy to mellow with every track. But IMO the album is great.
My favorites: Butterflies and Hurricanes, Stockholm Syndrome

it suffers to keep me listening. but it's an average album

You are really understating this album. My review was a bit overboard. It's not a 5. (admin, you can delete my review) But it's also not a 2.5. And saying that outside the genre is a 1/5!? This is the album that got me into this genre. This Message Edited On 12.18.05

The first song I ever learned with distortion on bass was Hysteria.
What album is 'The Groove' on?

Good review, but i disagree so much. I'd give this album aobut a 4-4.5. The epicness and raw emotion of some of the tracks is just astounding, such as in Apocalypse Please, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Falling Away With You, and Ruled By Secrecy. Its a really fantastic album, not a weak track on it.

i don't know. this just seems really weak to me

| |
wow, i just realised how good these songs are live, they sound miles better, makes me hungrier for their new album

Well, this was actually the album that got me into Muse, and they were rather unlike my (then) current taste in music, so I have to disagree with you there. They were my gateway into a lot of Alternative music.
I think this album is not as consistently strong as OoS, being the mindblowing album that it is, but I find that Absolution has many highlights for me when I listen. "Apocalypse Please" is a very strong opener, all three singles are enjoyed (though "Hysteria" tops the rest), "The Small Print" rocks my face off, and I actually like the contrast between hard and fast tracks like "Stockholm Syndrome" and slower tracks like "Sing for Absolution" and "Blackout".
Good review, still, pleasant depth and such, though I think you underrated the album.
I still need to see them live. They're supposed to be amazing.

i disagree that absolution wont appeal to people just getting into muse. This was my first muse cd and i ahve been a huge fav ever since...actually i bought all the albums in reverse...absolution, origin, and lastly showbiz...

I like 'Hysteria' but the other songs were so overplayed that it kind of killed the band for me. Every five seconds you would hear 'Time Is Running Out'...jeez. It isn't even that great a song.

i had never heard muse before this album, with the exception of their first single off of absolution, time is running out. that single led me to buy the cd, which became my fav cd that day. this cd has such a heavy depressing feeling, much like turn on the bright lights and kid a. i personally think it's muse's best and among the best cds i've ever heard.
