First of all, I want to take you guys for appreciating my review. More will come.

As I've said in the review, The Strokes are certainly not suitabe for everyone. Nazi Bassist, you find The Strokes bland, overrated etc. Well, that's your opinion, you say that we don't have to like Tool, well, we don't have to hate The Strokes either.

Guitarded chuck, the term Indie Rock was used for The Strokes in allmusic.com, so I put it here straightforward.

Hybrid of Sound, if you notice, the song New York City Cops is in the cd with the *** and the hand. That's the UK version, but I reviewed the US version, so that's why I put the US cover here.

No, don't misunderstand. You can like The Strokes all you want. My comment was mainly to NPC who I know said that about Tool just to agitate me, because they are my favorite band. I will continue to hate The Strokes all I want, because I think they don't deserve to breathe...and if you think the same about Tool, fine...but that doesn't mean you have to agitate me about it, 'you' being a general term here

Oh, I see what you mean. To be honest, I like Tool, not a huge fan of them, but like their music. (As far as I know, you listen to new metal too; like me :D) So no insults there.

Peace. :chug:

I dabble in new, prog, death, black...if it's metal, it can't be bad :thumb:

I didn't know that they were your favorite . Seriously you need to stop taking offense to utter internet nonsense. I named a bland band that's overrated much like Tool's prog nonsense is. Nothing more, so drop the whole "NPC Hates You" crap and move on.

Anyway, music is an 'open interpretation' in that anyone can say what ever they want about it without being wrong. So no one's opinion about music really holds water in the first place. I would think since you say that you're a musician, you would have realized this already.

The Strokes, like I've said before are good at what they do. They make new aged fuzz rock. Is it original? No. Is it spectacular? Not really. But that's the point of their music anyway, even if they bask in the limelight. And if you don't like the fact that they enjoy having musical attention on them, move on. That's a choice they have made, but that doesn't negate the fact that they written some decent songs that have paved the way for success. That's almost always the case with music--if you dumb it up, you'll see your bullet rise on the Billboard Music Charts.

great album, so deceptively cohesive. i love how each instrument has a significant part in the music. the two guitarists just play off each other, one creating a wall of sound while the other keeps the riff, then suddenly they both start playing riffs at different tempos - so many subtleties!

i think if people really gave the album a chance, they would realize that it's a bonafied classic. it took me a while to adjust, but this is one of the best albums of the century thus far.

tool may be more technical, but they sure aren't as fun as the strokes :thumb:

The Strokes aren't really fun either. You're thinking of similar "old" sounding bands; the Strokes just sort of stand there and act bored while playing their instruments.

and how about you guys stop acting like assholes just because you dislike the band..

I don't like Tool but you don't see me going into those reviews and saying Tool isn't fun or Tool sucks

The Strokes are a good band. They're not copying the classic rock sound, they're simply a stripped-down rock band without anything special. Some think this is supposed to be an imitation of old-school rock, but it's not. It's just non-complicated, simplistic rock music, and I can honestly say I have no problem with that.

While they're not doing anything exceptionally different or new, they do have the ability to make some outrageously catchy songs, and that's more than I can say for Tool, whose songs not only don't stay with me but often meld into each other because they sound so alike.

The Strokes aren't fun? They sure are fun to me, whenever my friends and i go for a beer run before or after a party we often play "someday" or "hard to explain" and it just perfectly suits the mood.

I would have to disagree with you on them just standing there, the past 2 times i've seen them, Julian ended up halfway in the middle of the venue, fab's drumset was destroyed on stage, nick was in his cool nonchalant rock n roll star mode raising his guitar on solos, albert has that wild strumming and always falls to his knees, the only person that stands there is nikolai the bassist. i just love watching both guitarists play, it's like verlaine and lloyd for my generation.

"The same could be said for Tool and alot of mellow nu-metal/nu-metal bands"

By this statement, it seems like you are lumping Tool in with nu-metal, which would make you a dumbass.

You probably didn't mean that...but Tool has more talent, creativity, and money than you'll ever have, does it really matter if they're mellow?

I like The Strokes and Tool, maybe broaden your horizons a little :thumb:

What are you talking about? Tool is nu-metal/drama rock and they have been from the start. There's nothing extremely special about their music much like the Strokes...it's just there. Tool was one of the first Nu-Metal groups and that hasn't changed, the only thing that has changed is the Nu-Metal supporting cast around them.

different strokes for different folkes.

if you can't get into the music, that's fair enough, but no need to bash it all the time. appreciate that other people like the music, and leave it at that.

as for the album, i find Soma to be my favourite song, dunno why. for some reason, i thought Hard to Explain was on Room on Fire, dunno why?

Good band. Not great, but good. Worth a listen every now and again and I'll buy their new cd if they have one. I wouldn't take a bullet for a band member though. Good review also. 7½ or 8/10

I enjoy this album very much, much more than RoF, though that album has it's moments too. It's just nice, mellow, simple and fun rock n roll.
