Everything from Octopus Has No Friends to Thickening is pretty boring, except for the title track. And Curl of the Burl is pretty dumb, except for the lyrics.

I don't agree. Curl Of The Burl pretty much defines stoner pop.

It's made up, but it's so true about this album. This is basically Mastodon going soft, which isn't a bad thing per se.
Besides, Torche is a stoner pop outfit. SO, the genre has existed before. In fact, this makes me think of Torche a lot.

I wish they would have gone softer. Mainly, the only songs that do anything for me are the mellow ones (The Hunter, Creature Lives, The Sparrow). Bedazzled Fingernails is pretty good, but yeah.

Awesome album. It lived up to Crack the skye in my opinion. From the hunter all the way to the sparrow is just
awesome. This band has gotten me back into metal. I was bored with the whole genre until someone showed me blood
mountain and crack the skye. I was worried after crack the skye they would peak. Maybe they have, but this album
doesnt sink below that peak. And it sounds different than the last 2 amazingly. Dry bone valley is probably my least
favorite on the album, except for the awesome solo at the end of it. So far, this has the lest tracks skipped for me in
any mastodon album. i only liked the first half of blood mountain, and would skip tracks 2 and 3 on crack the skye.
here theres nothing i really want to skip, although theres a couple weaker songs.

Gallows Grey Britain
just fucking rules
2009 was basically the year Gallows gave UKHC a great big spanking. Frank Carter's vocals are unique and work fantastically well with the music. It manages to handle the explosive, heavy moments with more melodic parts here and there without it sounding mashed together with force like some hardcore/punk etc bands do it. Every song sounds unique and incredible in its own right. Grey Britain is original, unique and quite possibly AOTY 2009.

I kinda lol'd at Anarchist Fish's rating too. Very good track record for rating on sputnik... *cough*
It's too bad Mastodon couldn't live up to Chinese Democracy on this one.
