it was such a ugly scene, using the guise of being 'damaged' and romanticising that to take advantage of underage girls really is horrific

actually,

"if it was an artist with some actual talent I'd understand the fans being in denial and defending the piece of shit, but Jesse Lacey? lol"

is a disgusting statement because you meant it. you're willing to defend people that have (your idea of) artistic merit. you can't pick and choose who should be given leniency.

seems irrational not to separate art from artist imo but to each their own

im sure there are plenty of dark tales about some of the biggest artists ever (or otherwise celebrated figures in general) that are lost to history, for example

I’m gonna go ahead and never talk ab brand new online again because this^^^^^ always happens.

And yeah what clumseeee said. You can’t pick and choose which artists deserve leniency based on talent. That is some alarming shit. Still appreciating brand new =/= supporting jesse’s actions.

I'm legitimately pissed off at jesse. This band was such a vital part of who I was, and then the allegations came out and tainted the whole of their discography. Cannot listen to a single word anymore :/

alright stretch. I don't have to explain myself to you but I will anyway. 15 years ago, Jesse sent nudes to a high school-aged girl when he was 23. It was wrong. He shouldn't have gotten away with it, but he did for a long time. According to the allegations, he never fiddled, fondled, or fucked any underage girl. so you can stop regurgitating those silly exaggerations. When he realized he wrong and wanted to correct his actions (again, 10-15 years ago) he didn't get on myspace and tell his fanbase that he sent some girl nudes. because why the hell would anyone do that. longgg before any of this surfaced, he sought treatment (probably therapy) and his fiancee/wife supported him through it. there have been no allegations of any wrongdoing since then. As far as we know, dude has been squeaky clean since his mid twenties and is literally 100% a different person now. He is now married and has two kids, and from what little we know about his current life via social media, he seems to be a pretty decent guy and a decent father. I'm disappointed in his past actions, but it looks like he's done a damn good job of fixing himself over the past 15 years. So no, I'm not going to quit listening to Brand New and go around screaming "JESSE RAPES LITTLE GIRLS THOUGH OMG HE'S AN ABUSER EVERYONE NEEDS TO BOYCOTT EVERYTHING" like you.

he (verm?) has a point about someone like that not just 'changing' and when you actually read into what he did it's hard to see this music in the same light again- especially tracks like Maradona

idk, i think people can change. especially when you're in your early twenties. the brain hasn't fully finished developing, people are still learning from mistakes and finding themselves. Not defending his actions at all - just saying that it's not fair to assume he still feels or acts the same way he did when he was 23.

One thing to take into account tho buttboy is it wasn’t like a one off mistake in his life, he was “grooming” her for years. Seems more like fucked morals/worldview to me. :/

And wanting to save ones reputation after being ousted =/= true remorse.
