This album is pretty boring, just a heads up. They kind of continue in the vein of Paradise Lost, but the riffs and songwriting aren't nearly as good.

Only has a couple good songs but is pretty bland and uninspired.

There's little variation but that's really the only problem I have with the album. I mean, I think it's pretty fucking impressive. I like it more than Paradise Lost, it doesn't have those irritating neoclassical elements. They do heavy well in my opinion, and though as a whole it may be too long, I could listen to any one of the songs and really get into it.
That said The Divine Wings of Tragedy and The Odyssey are still better.

the neoclassical elements are the best part about the entire band. You can only chug-a-chug-a-chug chug for so long before it becomes extremely tedious and boring.

I really like the title track, When All Is Lost, Electric Messiah, Light Up the Night, and Reign in Madness. My two favorites on Paradise Lost are the ballads, but I think I'd take those five songs I just listed over any of the heavier songs on PL.

I think the songs are just more memorable on Paradise Lost. I like their heavier side better generally too, but it gets monotonous on here. Still pretty consistently enjoyable, but it lacks standouts. When All Is Lost and the title track are fantastic though.

I'm not going to disagree there, Paradise Lost had more identity for sure. I just feel like they real nailed the heaviness down with this album. On previous albums the heaviest tracks felt a little forced and cheesy, but they all seem natural here and I dig it.
Even if it lacks in variety, it makes up for it in high quality.

I wasn't sure about this album at first. Iconoclast, end of innocence and dehumanized were all the songs that caught me at first. After a few listens, the album sinks in and every song turns gold. This album blows me away at an increasing rate with every listen. Just buy it, and give it some time. And another thing, get the double disc

Definitely a solid album, probably ranking 2nd or 3rd on my list of releases this year, but yea they could have toned down the metal riffing a bit.

"I like it more than Paradise Lost, it doesn't have those irritating neoclassical elements."
This band was never about being heavy. Russel changing his voice was as far as they should have gone in making their sound heavier. This band was all about neoclassical elements and it saddens me to see them gone. Sellouts? Perhaps, too early to say.
This album gets worse, not better, with every listen. When All Is Lost is the only stand out for me. Not a bad album, but I wouldn't call it Symphony X, more like a different band altogether.

Selling out? haha...what? If anything the length and "gruffness" makes this less accessible than Paradise Lost.
I still stand by this being an excellent release. And it still sounds an awful lot like Symphony X, they have a pretty identifiable sound, neoclassical elements or not.

When all is lost is the best song here. Album is good but a bit too repetitive.

Just got this album, rules in my opinion. Can anyone recommend other albums I might like by Symphony X or any other bands I should take a look at?
