It's awesome, yea, but any number of their songs destroy it (Japam, Dead For a Minute, Saint Matthews, Frequency).

^ Maybe, if Converge never released Jane Doe.

And no, Frequency and St. Matthew are not better than Man the Ramparts. Not by a long shot.

Jane Doe (the song specifically) is fucking immense. Dude, how perfectly the verse riffs fit with the rest of the riffs, and then that one transition riff that leads into the part where it's just like...soft vox in the background, and then it kicks back in and the fade-out starts...
nothing is more epic than THAT.

And Hep Kat, whaddya mean "it's just metalcore so it's w/e"?

Man The Ramparts is good because of its positioning as the coda, but as a standalone song it's not spectacular. My opinion is righter, clearly. If any of you guys haven't picked up the deluxe, you should. The live rendition of Transitions makes me want to go to a Minus the Bear concert and ask him wtf he was thinking.

No, I'm just wondering what you're going by when you denounce an entire GENRE of music.

stare into my buttcrack and see the genre of metalcore

There is a lot of shitty metalcore out there but there are a few gems to be found, if you know what to look for.

Re: Detriment
Stick with it. I hated it at first, now it's one of my most beloved albums. Start with tracks like Transitions; it's particularly dynamic.
Re: Botch as metalcore
I've always hated that they suffer from the retroactive bias related to the current state of the genre. 7a7p too.
Edit^^: Anyone who doesn't own Jhazmyne's Lullaby; remedy it.
