LOL I read this thinking I was in the rtj4 thread and was like damn wow that was quick
But agreed I really liked it when it came out and never listened to it ever again until like a year ago I check out a couple songs and honestly was not feeling them at all

I feel like this came out during a time that sputnik (and elsewhere) was really into a certain type of eclectic indie shenanigans that did not stand the test of time. I think it was exciting, colorful, and new for a minute but then became a bit kitsch. Wu lyf, tuneyards, alt-j, born gold, yeasayer, glass animals, stuff like that comes to mind as a representation of that. I think people still demonstrably get fired up about the stuff (everything everything also comes to mind) but the hype wagon is considerably less apparent.
