Libet's Delay could be a single.

The records he used were like different pigments a painter may use to compose a landscape or portrait, necessarily unique and individualistic, yet no one ever accuses the painter of laziness for not inventing new colors, as there will always be interesting, new ways to combine what has always been.

...man that's really quite brilliant if you came up with that

@ patrick: Yeah, but I'd say someone like The Avalanches would be a better example of that because of the creative "combining what has always been" into something that is completely their own. To me, this album isn't really combining anything to create something much different than the "different pigments" the painter is using. Not much synergy going on imo.

Yotimi, I understand what you are getting at; he doesn't use pre-existing colors so much as pre-existing bits of finished paintings. Well, I suppose that anology is a bit more apt, but I still maintain that this record is a work of art. The artist likely sifted through hundreds, perhaps thousands, of records in order to cull the specific samples which he intended to use and manipulate. He decided precisely which portions--which hues--from each tune--from each painting--which would feel the most emotionally resonant and relevant. He then stitched them all together to create a sort of mosiac or collage, the sum of which turned out to be much prettier and more profound than its lovely, mysterious parts. The focus upon the texture of the vinyl itself, the way the melodies drift in and out, cresting and crashing about, the cultivated ambience of soft rain or a gentle breeze; it all coalesces into something magnificently rustic and haunting.

That being said, I honestly can see why one would not enjoy this record. It's a matter of sentiment and dispostion, and that's what makes music great. One man's trash is another's treasure.

Last night, I watched The Shining and then listened to this immediately afterward. It's like chocolate chip cookies and milk; they were made for one another.

sometimes really random and weird things will totally hit me in the heart and for some reason the title (and i guess the music too, yeah) of "the sublime is disappointingly elusive" does that

ugh cant even form thoughts right now but like...what a sad sentiment, that the sublime is disappointingly elusive. kirby gets me etc

I feel this is as essential to own on disk as Ulver's Shadow of the Sun. One of those distinguishable records that stands out from the crowd.

Yeah Robert, that song is stunning.

And yeah Balls I'd love to have this on disc, especially vinyl. Then I'd invest in some old turn of the century Gramophone to really get this album to pop.
