It's not everything that I expected. The album is very well put together. I enjoy it, although I do believe that Plans is one of their best albums.

What the hell happened to my Death Cab for Cutie? I like the guy who drank champagne out of paper cups and told girls, "Yeah you are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me." Sigh. I fear the excitement of youth has drifted from these guys, and they are left with only moderately tolerable lyrics and some classic, pretty Ben Gibbard harmonies. I was afraid of this, but I expected them to avoid falling to this new "Dad rock" craze among indie bands like The National, Wilco, and Coldplay. I just expected something new and ambitious, and this is, at best, supremely average. It lacks that smoldering, seething passion that made the earliest, best Death Cab music so thrilling and human.

Death Cab is and always has been pretty boring. There are always certain songs that shine, but overall I only listen to this band when I want to go to sleep.
The Postal Service is where it's at.
