love the classic scene from Gimme Shelter where he tries to stop the HA's from beating some kid and they turned on him and knocked him out, hilarious

Yes, hard RIP for that one. Paul too a couple of years ago. Jorma and Jack are still playing aren't they? I know a lot of people associate these guys with the hippy movement, but they were seriously talented musicians and songwriters

What I mean to say is that the music definitely transcends the context in which it was written and recorded

actually Jorma like most of the psyche originals started playing folk and bluegrass at the coffeee houses in and around San Fran. The ones like Garcia, Jorma, Balin, were always the better musicians of that period

Jack is a very underrated bassist too, equal to Paul McCartney back in the day, if not better.

Phil Lesh is the best bassist from the period, although Jack is good as well

this is a far cry from that SOurce, I always say that unfortunately the 80's got everybody, and was especially hard on the last remaining 60's bands,

it does sound a tad dated at places source but overall, this is really good and a snapshot of a long ago movement that ran out of steam too quickly, although it moved genres like doom, psych folk, and hard rock in good directions,

had some terrrific players on this, Jack CAssidy, Jorma, and special guests like garcia
