One day at school during a free period when I had no homework to do I took out a piece of paper and started writing about this acid trip where a face came out of a wall and ate the character and he was God's brother. My story was really falling in on itself so I decided to incorporate the completely unrelated story into my novel. The thing is, it worked thematically because the point from the beginning was that the character was going crazy being stuck in a tiny rural town where everyone had the same ideology, unquestioned tradition, and lack of personality. He was already making friends with animals at that point. It's never revealed in the book whether any of it actually happened or if it was just him mentally breaking down.

That's seriously horrendous. I always spent too much time worry about quality but my stuff was significantly better than that even though it took many extra hours to account for that increased quality. Still sucked anyway. I still love the story though, I think it has a lot of potential I didn't explore.
