i dont see much satire in the lyrics, but regardless i dont think the point of any any R&B record is lyricism. the point is his amazing voice and the production. there really has never been an R&B record with beats like this.

i think this guy's voice is pretty generic to be honest, and the production is rather annoying - too reminiscent of contemporary, mainstream r&b and pop. the lyrics are pretty bad, too

I've never found straightforward to be bad, necessarily. Sometimes, especially when it comes to sex, poetry and abstraction are not the best route. I think the lyrics are simple, honest, and just this side of corny. The record works if you buy into the whole asthetic; this is not necessarily aiming for depth, but rather expansiveness. Let go, and you'll probably enjoy it a bit more. I initially rated this album a 1.0. It's a slow mover in more ways than one.
